The medieval church and churchyard of Cromarty now lie covered by the sea. Its position is marked by 'the Kirkstanes' below the Fishertown. Bones and stones have been washed up on the beach and lie buried now in the new churchyard. The ancient church was, I believe, dedicated to St Moluag. Whilst another dedication to - St Regulus - is known, I would suggest that this was a later dedication dating from the Romish period of the Church.

This was a prebendal church but its revenues did not constitute a single prebend. In 1255/6, the parsonage revenues were divided into four 'shares', one each being allocated to the Dean, Precentor, Chancellor and Treasurer of Ross. This allocation followed upon the re-erection of the Chapter in the previous year. This sub-division continued at the Reformation. The cure was served by a vicar perpetual.
