It should be noted that some authors would place Fetterneir and Monymusk within the Deanery of Mar. Likewise, Bethelnie, at times, may have been part of the Deanery of Buchan. What is more certainly known is that the parish of Inverurie was originally known as Rothket. At the start of the thirteenth-century, the parish church was moved to what had been the dependent chapel of Inverurie. After this, Rothket reverted to being a mere chapel, and very soon fell into decay.
